We had the pleasure of visiting the UK’s first accredited Passivhaus

This week we had the absolute pleasure of visiting The Crossway, the UK’s first accredited Passivhaus, designed and lived in by Richard Hawkes of Hawkes Architecture Ltd.

I distinctly remember watching this on Grand Designs back in 2009 and thinking how innovative this building was at a time when energy efficiency was very much on the periphery of construction. Walking through the front door of this amazing property all these years later felt very surreal and I half expected Kevin McCloud to step out to introduce himself!

It was fascinating to see the live data capture feeding into the ongoing post-occupancy evaluation and to experience first-hand how thoughtful design and performance-led architecture come together in practice.

Huge thanks to Richard for allowing us to look around his beautiful, iconic home.
